Southwestern Idaho CFC Merges with Intermountain CFC to Create

$3.2 Million Charitable Giving Campaign

ODGEN, UTAH – Intermountain CFC and Southwestern Idaho CFC, the charitable fundraising campaigns for federal employees in the Intermountain region, today announced a merger that will result in an annual campaign that raises more than $3.2 million dollars for local, national and international charitable organizations. The merger, effective immediately, has been approved by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) in Washington D.C. and the Local Federal Coordinating Committees (LFCCs) for both campaigns.

The combined campaign will be known as Intermountain CFC and will be overseen by an expanded Local Federal Coordinating Committee, or LFCC, comprised of federal agency managers and volunteers from throughout the two merged territories.

"Although Intermountain CFC covers a large amount of territory, each local area maintains active control over the campaign in its area," said Sue Nims, an LFCC member with the Bureau of Reclamation in Boise, Idaho. "The result will be significantly reduced operating costs and expanded resources for federal employees, such as online giving for every employee."

In 2010, Southwestern Idaho CFC raised $520,000 while Intermountain CFC raised $2,600,000 for charitable organizations selected by the individual federal employees who made voluntary contributions via payroll deduction, check and cash gifts. The combined campaign is expected to raise approximately $3.2 million in 2011, with operating costs below 8 percent, making it one of the most effective and efficient CFCs in the country.

The Principal Combined Fund Organization (PCFO) for the campaign will be United Way of Northern Utah, as selected by the LFCC. The PCFO's role is to act as the fiscal and promotional agent for the campaign, but it does not receive any fees for this position. PCFOs receive CFC monies when designated by individual federal employees, the same as all other participating charitable organizations.

"United Way of Northern Utah is thrilled to take on the additional responsibility of administering the CFC for the Southwestern Idaho region in addition to Utah, Wyoming and western Colorado," said Bob Hunter, president and CEO, United Way of Northern Utah. "The LFCC has placed great trust in us, and we remain committed to administering this campaign with the utmost integrity and enthusiasm."

“Federal employees probably won’t notice much difference in the campaign in 2011, except we’ll be able to make each contributed dollar go even further, while offering expanded resources such as online pledging and exciting new incentive programs,” said Bruce Jacobs, executive director, Intermountain CFC.

Established in 1961, the Combined Federal Campaign is among the largest and most successful workplace charity drives in the world. The campaign enables military and civilian federal workers, including U.S. postal service employees, to support charitable causes of their choice via payroll deduction or cash/check donation. Since 1996, the local CFC has raised more than $27 million for human health and welfare organizations. Nationwide, the CFC has raised more than $6 billion since its inception.
